Windom Park comprises a long strip of land running from Central Avenue, east to St. Anthony, between 18th Avenue and Lowry. Central Avenue is the main commercial corridor, and the new Quarry Shopping Center is on 18th Avenue. This end of Johnson Street has a mix of commercial and large residential rental units. The other major thor­oughfare, Stinson, is a parkway included in the Grand Round. Craftsman and Tudor-style homes built in the 1920s and '30s are found along the parkway and to the east. Windom, the park, at the intersection of Johnson Street and Lowry Avenue, features a long, sloping hill that serves as a site for summer concerts and the annual Ice Cream Social, at the carnival that attracts families throughout the area.

Adjacent to the park is the magnet Pillsbury School, specializing in math, science, and technology for early childhood through grade six. As one of its projects, it collaborates with classrooms all along the Mississippi River to explore their communities' connections to the river. Students are studying the culture and history of their unique part of the river
