Predictions for the 2015 Real Estate market are positive and point to a better year for both buyers and sellers. Home values will continue to rise. Interest rates will remain low at least in the first part of the year. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae will now back mortgages with as little as 3% down. Banks will be easing up on credit requirements. All of these factors combined with high rents make home ownership financially more desirable inspiring Millenniums to finally be enter the market as first time home buyers. Current owners will be anxious to trade up and take advantage of historically low interest rates. Baby Boomers who have been waiting for home values to increase will sell the large family home and downsize. Folks who got hit with foreclosures in 2008 will have them falling off their credit reports and be entering the market again. It’s going to be a good year!

Winter changes the dynamics of selling and showing your home at its best. Less hours of daylight, cold weather along with snow and ice are all challenges we face in the winter season. Here are my 5 best tips for making your home shine more and sparkle brighter even though the days are shorter and the ground is covered in snow!
1. A Home for All Seasons
Keep the driveway and all walkways shoveled. Maneuvering through snow and ice to get inside your home is not going to make for a good first impression so be sure your property is totally accessible. Granted snow removal can be a challenge but at least you don’t have to worry about mowing and trimming the lawn every few days. Another plus, if you don’t have the best landscaping on the block, the snow can provide a pristine charm you wouldn’t have in the warmer months. On the flip side, if you are an avid gardener and have put time and money into awesome landscaping make sure to have an album of photos highlighting those features for buyers to view.
2. Let the Light Shine in and Out
Keep window dressings at a minimum to take advantage of the available light. Make sure draperies are drawn and shades are...
Winter's frosty breath freezes on the window pane; within it’s a warm fire, hot spiced cider and Bing Crosby singing White Christmas. It must be December!
December sparkles more and shines brighter! It’s about Christmas, Chanukah and Kwanzaa. It’s a season of miracles, love, peace and good will. It’s about the Winter Solstice on the 21st, the official first day of winter although here in the Metro winter is already in full swing! Lastly, December is about endings and beginnings as we wrap up the year and look forward to rockin' a brand new year!
One thing I know for sure - December is a busy month! Shopping, wrapping, cooking, baking, decorating and celebrating are all a large part of what we do in December! Most of us also have busy social calendars as we connect with family, friends and co-workers to celebrate the season! There is also a plethora of events in the Metro, some which have become traditions and others a sampling of something shiny and new!
Are you ready? Joe Houghton and his helpers certainly are and we say bring it on December! Let’s take a look at what is going on in our wonderful Twin Cities Metro this month!
